Richard Cuerden – Academy Director, TRL

Richard is responsible for TRL’s science and engineering strategy. He has experience leading a diverse portfolio of research programmes, including establishing EU regulation to improve vehicle tail-pipe emissions over their life and supporting the EC to develop vehicle safety type-approval legislation.

Championing zero-carbon mobility, Richard delivered Europe’s first public trial of electric-automated passenger transport (GATEway), co-led the creation and build of London’s Smart Mobility Living Lab (SMLL). He is assessing the potential real-world benefits of HGV Platooning technology. TRL’s strategy is evolving in-line with the vision of ‘clean, efficient transport that is safe, reliable and accessible for everyone’.
