Russell is the Senior Project Manager looking at National Grid’s role in transport decarbonisation – from rapid charging of EVs to synthetic fuels for aviation.
Russell has also led the analysis for RIIO-2, National Grid ESO’s first price control after legal separation, helping the ESO operate the carbon-free system by 2025.
Before that, Russell led the Future Energy Scenarios (FES) document, the detailed electricity demand analysis that stood behind it and in 2012 was part of the Electricity Market Reform (EMR) project. He produced analysis and reports for the first low carbon capacity and security of supply auctions.
Throughout his career, Russell has held various analysis and finance roles at RWE npower and EON and has a PhD in mathematics from the University of Birmingham.
